DARE
Developing programs for Access of disadvantaged groups of people and Regions to higher Education
This three-year cross-regional project aims at providing inclusive education for disadvantaged groups by increasing access to higher education institutions in the regions of Georgia and Israel. The project will contribute considerably to awareness-raising, introduction of targeted course material, training of academic and administrative staff and online courses to prepare students with language training and skills courses. The project will focus on learning and teaching tools, ICT-based practices and the establishing of support services, counselling and guidance. It also aims at increasing institutional capacities and transferring best practice to ensure equity and access to all students. Co-ordinated by the University of Haifa, the project started in October this year and will finish in 2018. The 13 partners and 4 associate partners in this project consist of higher education institutions as well as non-academic organisations and NGOs from the Czech Republic, Georgia, Israel, Lithuania, Romania, Spain, and the UK. Global Access to Post-Secondary Education (GAPS)
The Global Access to Post-Secondary (GAPS) Initiative will build the global case for increasing access to post-secondary education for those from all social backgrounds, exchange knowledge and practice across countries to improve our understanding of how to meet the access challenge and advocate to policymakers and senior leaders across all sectors.
RUMI – “Reseau des Universites Marocaines pour l’enseignement Inclusif”

TEMPUS-SMGR [2013-2016] European Commission
RUMI is a follow-on project from UMEI with the aim of establishing a nationwide network of universities and NGOs to promote inclusive education in Morocco, focusing on disability; cultural and linguistic diversity; socio-economic inequality and gender. One of the objectives is to implement the Charter on Inclusive Education developed during the UMEI project.
UMEI – “Universites du Maghreb: Enseignement Inclusif”
(Inclusive Education at Universities in the Maghreb)
TEMPUS-JPGR [2012-2014] European Commission
The aim of this bi-lingual (French and English) project is to improve access to universities in the Maghreb – Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia – for three target groups: students with disabilities, students from low socio-economic backgrounds, and those from geographical regions. It aims to raise awareness, develop a strategy and policy of democratization of access to Maghreb universities and facilitate the transfer of knowledge, skills and expertise from the European partners. More specifically, the role of the European partners is to support the creation and implementation, within Maghreb universities, of an Assistance Unit of Awareness, Support and Mediation (CASAM), and to develop a training manual for academic and administrative staff, senior management and students.
SiS Catalyst: Children as Change Agents

SiS Catalyst: Children as Change Agents, is a four year, European Commission funded Mobilising Mutual Learning Action Plan. It is an initiative to foster and support ethical, effective and sustainable engagement between children aged 7-14 years and the social, cultural, political, scientific and educational institutions which make the decisions that will shape their futures.
SiS Catalyst is based on a very simple idea… that as children are the future, we must involve them in the decision of today. SiS Catalyst is about finding, refining and applying ways to do this.
While it seeks to empower children everywhere and influence all kinds of institutions to engage with them, the initiative has a particular focus on strengthening relationships between post-secondary education institutions and the children who, despite ability, currently appear unlikely to enter them.
SIRUS – “Shaping Inclusive and Responsive University Strategies”
Erasmus Mundus [2009-2011] European Commission
Funded under the Erasmus Multilateral Projects – Modernisation of Higher Education, SIRUS aimed to support universities in Europe to implement the commitments made in the European Universities’ Charter on Lifelong Learning. The Charter listed 10 matching commitments for universities, governments and regional partners to facilitate the development of lifelong learning institutions forming a central pillar of the Europe of Knowledge. The SIRUS project offers universities with different profiles and interests in lifelong learning that are at different stages of its implementation, an opportunity to develop and enhance their strategic approaches, to make lifelong learning a reality.
Access to Success: Fostering trust and exchange between Europe and Africa
Erasmus Mundus Action 4 [2008-2010] European Commission
This two-year project funded by the Erasmus Mundus programme of the European Union aimed at building a framework for sustainable higher education dialogue between Europe and Africa, focusing specifically on areas of common interest to both regions: access to higher education for under-represented groups, mobility, cooperation development and capacity building. Throughout the project, ‘partnership’ was central to the discussions. Partnerships of institutions to address common challenges, build capacity and produce globally and locally relevant knowledge; partnerships of university associations to guide more regionally oriented discussions and projects; and partnerships of government bodies in supporting higher education exchange within political frameworks.
