Global Catalysts: the Potential and Ethics of Learning from Children

University of Tartu, Estonia

24th - 26th April 2013

At the heart of SiS Catalyst is our target group of children aged 7-14 – the locally defined minorities – who are least likely to progress to higher education in a specific locality. As children are the future we must respect their rights to participation and find ways to empower them.

We welcome those who have an interest in learning about what we do to the third PPI conference, “Global Catalysts: the Potential and Ethics of Learning from Children” at the University of Tartu, Estonia. In Tartu we will consider the ethical guidelines and capture the organisational and societal learning which occurs as a consequence of working with, and listening to children and young people.

The conference is free of charge and registration is now open. To register and find out more about the conference programme, accommodation and practical information please go to: www.siscatalyst.eu/tartu

Children's Rights, Institutions' Responsibilities: Transforming Strategy into Reality

University of Edinburgh, Scotland

28th February 2013

The focus of this seminar is on the importance of listening to children and how institutions and national governments can play a role in establishing a culture of respect for children's views and decisions.  It hopes to engage with policy makers in contributing to the implementation of objectives 1: promoting child-friendly services and systems; and 2: promoting child participation; of the Council of Europe’s “’Building a Europe for and with Children’ – a strategy for 2012-2015”. For more information about the seminar and programme: http://www.siscatalyst.eu/future-events/policy-makers-briefing-february-2013

Policy makers are also change makers. They are leaders within our governments, institutions, business and community organisations. They are people who can make the changes needed to ensure that children have opportunities to engage with decision makers and to participate in education. At this seminar participants will be invited to endorse the SiS Catalyst Ankara and Porto Declarations on children’s rights and our responsibilities: www.siscatalyst.eu/policy-makers/declarations

Please note that this seminar is by invitation only.

Children as Change Agents for Science and Society

"Putting global thinking into action"

University of Zagreb, Croatia

25th  - 27th  of June 2012

We are the custodians of our children´s future but how are they included in our institutional learning? Over recent years there has been a global shift in the vision of the role that education can play in our collective future. This has included a growing recognition of the personalised learning journey that we, our learning institutions and society are undertaking in an increasingly interconnected world.

The pace of change is accelerating and the mission of the SiS Catalyst project is to turn such ideas into reality through the mobilisation of our mutual learning and the identification of the cultural change that we need to embrace.  SiS Catalyst specifically focuses on how we include children in the dialogue between society and the academic communities.

This conference will be an opportunity for the curious to explore the vision of SiS Catalyst and to see how it relates to their own.
